SKIN RESURFACING LASER PEEL

The Erbium YAG Laser skin resurfacing helps to improve an assortment of conditions such as sun damage, scars, fine lines & wrinkles. The laser light energy emitted is attracted to the water in your skin cells. This causes the skin cells to vaporize in a controlled and consistent depth. After the damaged skin is removed, new skin cells are regenerated.  This treatment is great for sun-damaged, crepey skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this painful?

Topical anesthetic is applied 30 minutes prior to procedure.  There is some mild discomfort during the procedure and a feeling of warmth after.  An ice pack (not direct ice) maybe applied to help soothe areas with discomfort.  PRONOX, a form of "laughing gas" is available for an added cost.

What is the "down time" for this procedure?

Typically  this procedure requires about 3-5 days of healing.  We recommend doing the procedure before the weekend so that you will be feeling and looking your best by Monday.

What can I expect after the procedure?

Mild redness will be present in the treatment area and can last from a few hours up to a few days. Treatment areas almost always become red. Immediately following the procedure, patients will experience a mild sunburn sensation that may include some mild discomfort. Most patients do not feel any significant discomfort, however, an ice pack (not direct ice) maybe applied to help soothe areas with discomfort.  You should refrain from sun exposure for the following week and must use gentle cleanser and Aquaphor for 3-5 days after.  You may resume your normal activities within five days after treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Most people require 1-2 treatments to clear superficial sun damage.

How do I know if this procedure is right for me?

This treatment is best for superficial sun induced damage and skin atrophy or "crepiness" associated with aging. If you are still unsure, consultations with the Nurse Practitioner are free and she can direct you to the best solution for your skin.

I am considering a CO2 Laser Peel.  How does the Erbium Skin Resurfacing differ?

Both the Erbium wavelength (2940 nm) and the CO2 wavelength (10,600nm) target water to ablate the top layers of the skin.  The Erbium does this more efficiently leaving less "leftover" heat after the intended ablation.  The inefficient water absorption of the CO2 laser causes longer downtime and thereby the possibility for more side effects including prolonged redness, swelling, and loss of pigmentation.

How is the Spectrum Erbium different from Sciton's Contour TRL?

Sciton's Contour TRL and  Spectrum's Erbium are the same laser wavelength, both targeting a water.  The end result is ablation of the top layer of the skin.
